Gatehouse Bank launches Community Saver Account to combat youth homelessness

  • Gatehouse Bank’s Community Saver Account offers a 4.15% expected profit rate (EPR)*.
  • An amount equivalent to 0.10% of all deposits held will be donated by the Bank to youth homelessness charity, Depaul UK.
  • The account is available to new and existing UK customers and requires a minimum deposit of £1,000.

Gatehouse Bank has today launched a one-year fixed term Community Saver Account in support of the Bank’s charity partner, Depaul UK, a youth homelessness charity. The account has been launched ahead of World Homeless Day this Saturday, and follows data indicating that, between 2024 and 2025, one young person aged 16-24 in the UK became homeless or at risk of homelessness approximately every four minutes.**

Through Gatehouse Bank’s Community Saver Account, customers can support Depaul UK simply by saving. Customers accept a profit rate that is 0.05% lower than the Bank’s standard Fixed Term Deposit rate and the Bank matches this contribution, resulting in a donation equivalent to 0.10% of the account deposit. All charitable contributions are transparent, measurable and administered directly by Gatehouse Bank.

Gatehouse Bank has partnered with Depaul UK since January 2025, with colleagues taking part in fundraising initiatives and hands-on volunteering, having already raised over £25,000 for the charity. Following a successful one-year partnership, it was announced that this had been extended until December 2027. The Community Saver Account will now allow the Bank’s customers to get involved and share their support, with funds raised directly helping Depaul UK to support young people through emergency accommodation, longer-term supported housing solutions and prevention programmes that stop homelessness before it starts.

Today’s launch comes five years after Gatehouse Bank introduced its range of Woodland Saver Accounts where, for every fixed-term deposit or cash ISA account opened or renewed, a tree is planted on the customer’s behalf in a UK woodland project certified by the government’s Woodland Carbon Code. As over a third (35%) of UK consumers would be willing to learn more about ethical savings products, there remains a strong appetite amongst savers to align their financial goals with their ethical values.*** The launch of the Community Saver Account provides customers with the opportunity to choose which ESG initiative they support, whether they prefer to focus on an environmental or social impact cause.

The Community Saver Account offers an expected profit rate (EPR)* of 4.15% and is available to all new and existing customers based in the UK, with a minimum deposit of £1,000.

Andy Homer, Chief Customer Officer at Gatehouse Bank, commented: “It has been fantastic to see the incredible work undertaken by Depaul UK to support young people across the UK and the impact it has on their lives. Recently, this involved providing 5,871 safe nights’ accommodation through its Nightstop network and reaching 11,152 people though its accommodation services, family support programmes and work in schools****.

“As an ethically conscious bank, we know this is a cause that many of our customers will also resonate strongly with. The Community Saver Account will allow customers to contribute in a meaningful way while still supporting them to achieve their personal savings goals.”

Alexia Murphy, CEO of Depaul UK, said: “It’s been great to see so many colleagues at Gatehouse Bank supporting our mission through fundraising and volunteering over the last two years and we are very excited to be announcing this next phase of our partnership ahead of World Homeless Day this weekend.

“The money raised really will make a difference to the young people we support. It costs just £53 to host a young person in crisis with Nightstop, our emergency accommodation. Trained and vetted Nightstop hosts provide a safe place to sleep, a hot meal, toiletries and a warm welcome to someone who has nowhere else to turn. We are so grateful to everyone who chooses to open an account and support Depaul UK.”

Gatehouse Bank’s Community Saver Account can be opened online here and managed online and via the Gatehouse Bank Savings app.
